Meeting Minutes – May 10, 2024 at Eight Oaks Farm Distillery

Present: Justine Bachman, Steve Bachman, Don Christ, Bill Dellicker, Eugene Handwerk, Harold Handwerk, Ron Jerdon, David Keller, Bill Mantz, Nancy Zellner.  Guests: Susan Christ, Trudie Dellicker, Lorraine Jerdon

Chairman Christ began the meeting at 6:05 PM with the Pledge to the Flag.

  1. MINUTES: The March 15, 2024 minutes were approved. Motion by W Mantz, 2nd D Keller.
  2. TREASURER’S REPORT: Balance as of May 8, 2024 is $28,745.01 – Motion to accept by S Bachman, 2nd W Mantz.
  3. WEBSITE: Tabs on the HOME Page were changed to help users navigate the site to add a name to be engraved. Added a statement that there is no charge to add a name, however a suggested donation is $125 to cover the actual engraving cost.  Will verify that the requestor will receive a confirmation.
  4. DISCUSSION:

Proposed Guidelines for use of the Memorial Site for individual Veteran Memorial Service:

A proposal was offered to set Guidelines for groups desiring to have individual memorial services for veterans names that are on the granite panels.  The DRAFT Guidelines will be presented to the Lynn TWP Board of Supervisors for their consideration. The proposal recommends no fee for the Memorial Site and follow Park procedures for scheduling and pavilion fees. Motion to approve: J Bachman, 2nd N Zellner.

Memorial Site Maintenance:

Ross Post will trim the bushes inside the memorial fence at no charge.

Bill D will apply Wet & Forget to remove mildew and moss on the pavers

Ron will check with paver installers about tamping uneven pavers that may be a tripping hazard.

Flag purchase:

Bill D asked for a motion to approve the purchase of a 6×10 U.S. flag $228.90 and a 4×6 POW/MIA flag $136.88 from American Fence and Flag for the Memorial Day service. Motion by N Zellner, 2nd W Mantz.  It was suggested that the new flags be replaced with older flags after Veterans Day for display during the winter months to extend the life of the flags.

Memorial Day Ceremony 2024:

Dave Keller reviewed the completed program and status of all scheduled participants. 300 program booklets will be printed.

  1. Speakers are confirmed, Kevin Dellicker, Nate Peters, and Rev. Michelle G. Funk
  2. Steve and Ron – Flag raising will be performed Rain-or-Shine, NOTE: Use of a TV to show security camera coverage of the memorial site in the pavilion will be investigated in case of rain.
  3. Justine – Both Elementary schools will perform the National Anthem, Emmalynn Fink will play TAPS. Will set up tent for sales of memorial stuff.  Food Trucks confirmed: J Rads, Up-In-Smoke, Grumpy’s and The Nesting Box.
  4. Bill Mantz will set up stage/wagon and coordinate sound system with Marty.
  5. D Christ will furnish chairs for stage and guests. Also, barriers to block road, Porta-Potties and contact Fire Companies for display of their equipment.
  6. E Handwerk will contact TV stations for advertising Bill D sent flier to NWPress for May 23rd
  7. Committee members are asked to report at 9 am on Memorial Day and Sunday and remain after the Sunday Legion service for a short meeting for last-minute planning.
  8. Reminder- Slatington Legion MC riders will perform a Memorial Day ceremony at the NWL Veterans Memorial site at 9:00 AM, Sunday May 26, 2024.
