Meeting Minutes – August 18, 2023

Present: Justine Bachman, Steve Bachman, Chris Brown, Donald Christ, Willard Dellicker, Eugene Handwerk, Harold Handwerk Ron Jerdon, David Keller, Bill Mantz.

• Donald Christ called the meeting to order 6:05PM at the Eight Oaks Farm Distillery.

1. 1. TREASURER’S REPORT:

• No report, no change from July.

2. WEBSITE:

• Website is up-to-date.

3. DISCUSSION:

Chris Brown presented four concept drawings for a design to expand new granite surface to add names in the future.  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5r4avzj9yvekwh3/AAA11SQigvj1mmEut2rI_nN_a?dl=0

• The designs proposed building a stone wall around the rear perimeter of the memorial in place of the existing steel fence.
• The circular wall would be capped with beveled sections of granite for future engraving.
• The granite caps could be made to enable removal for engraving or relocating the order of the war periods to keep them in some chronological order as names are received.
• The committee chose the concept without intermediate columns and asked Chris for a sketch that could be used to estimate construction costs.
• After a budget cost is determined the committee will discuss how to unveil the new design to the four townships and the public, and develop a fundraising strategy.

• Jim Ritter (Out and About with the Ritters) will be invited to attend our next meeting to present the committee with a copy of the Memorial Day Program that he created for his TV show. https://youtube.com/@outandaboutwiththeritters8377
• The committee signed a “thank you” letter for Ed Sawyer and will invite him to the next meeting to present him with the letter and a set of commemorative coins from the memorial. Justine made a motion to gift the two coins to Ed Sawyer, second by Dave Keller, motion approved.
• Veterans Day 2023 plans –
  • Saturday November 11, Time 11AM – 4PM
  • Justine currently has 3 food trucks interested in attending the Veterans Day event.
  • Chris Noll said he will provide entertainment again, Steve will confirm.
  • Don will approach 8 Oaks for two bottles of Veterans Cut Bourbon for a raffle.
  • Advertisement – Justine on social media, Bill D flier for the NWPress.
